Event description
The 2020 South and East Museums Federation Study Trip - Cardiff!

About this Event

Book now so you don’t miss out on the unique, behind-the-scenes trip we have organised to Cardiff in January 2020! Featuring bespoke visits to award-winning museums and galleries, this will be a fun, professional development opportunity with the chance to explore the many attractions Cardiff has to offer.

Join us for an organised visit to hear from Elen Phillips, Principal Curator of Contemporary and Community History, at the Art Fund Museum of the Year winner St Fagans National History Museum on their recent redevelopment and how they are keeping Welsh history alive and connecting with their communities. This visit will include a live demonstration of traditional crafts in one of the world’s leading open-air museums, and free time to explore the rest of the highlights at St Fagans.

Discuss contemporary collecting and local partnerships with the team at the Museum of Cardiff (Cardiff Story Museum), shortlisted for this year’s Museums Change Lives ‘Best Small Museum’ award for their memory box scheme. This is a fantastic opportunity to get an insight to the successes of this small but active museum.

We are also looking to include visits to the unique Norwegian Church Arts Centre in Cardiff Bay, the National Museum Cardiff and a tour of the historic pubs in the city centre!

The 2020 SEMFed Study Trip to Cardiff, Wales will take place on 22nd-25th January.

Places on the trip are limited to 20 to allow for a good ‘behind the scenes’ experience. Exact details of visits included on the trip are still being confirmed but will include visits to a range of museums & galleries, including behind-the-scenes tours, Q & A’s and added value experiences.

The trip is open to all current SEMFed members and we welcome new members. Membership costs £10 for the year and you can easily become a member by visiting our membership page here - http://www.semfed.org.uk/membership/
