Mindful Space Cardiff 8-Week Course in Mindfulness (MBSR/MBCT), Sept - Dec 2020

Learn new ways of handling stress, pain and difficult feelings. An experiential course in mindfulness, based on the work of Jon Kabat-Zinn and Mark Williams. Learn in a supportive group environment with an experienced meditator, trainer and counsellor.

COVID-19 We are running this course in person and your safety and well-being is really important to us. We have adapted the course to make it safe for you. We are following government guidelines regarding social distancing and Covid-19 safe measures. The sessions will take place in a large room where there is ample space between participants. The group size is restricted. If lockdown is re-imposed during the course, the sessions will continue online (via zoom). Who is facilitating? Vicki Worsley is an experienced meditator, counsellor, teacher and trainer. She trained in mindfulness with Jon Kabat-Zinn (USA), Thich Nhat Hanh (France) and at Bangor University.  She has an MA in Buddhist Studies from Bristol University.

What will we cover? We will cover the core syllabus of the courses in MBSR, (Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction) and MBCT, (Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy). This includes mindfulness of breathing and body scan meditations, breathwork and bodywork, input and discussion on the theory and principles of mindfulness. You’ll also have the opportunity to apply the teachings to your life and experience.

Who is the course for? The course is open to beginners and to people who have meditated before in other settings. The only course requirement is that you make a commitment to attend all the sessions and set up and maintain a daily meditation and mindfulness practice. (You will get lots of support to help you do so.)

How much home practice will I be asked to do? Mindfulness meditation is a skill that requires commitment and daily practice to develop. To get the full benefits from the course you will need to set aside a regular time to do home practice of up to 60 minutes per day. We will start with 15 minutes meditation and build up to a daily practice of 40-45 minutes. In addition you'll be encouraged to bring mindfulness to activities during your day; drinking tea, walking and having a shower. If you think that this is going to be difficult for you please discuss this with the trainer before you enrol.

Is there any course reading? We recommend that you read either Mindfulness: A Guide to Finding Peace in a Frantic World (Williams), Full Catastrophe Living (Kabat-Zinn) or Living Well with Pain and Illness (Burch).

What do I bring to the sessions? Please bring four or five cushions and a blanket to class. You may also choose to invest in a proper meditation cushion and mat to support your practice.

Learning Environment A central part of the learning on this course will take place between students, in the group. For this learning to take place it is essential that the group environment is comfortable, friendly and supportive. I see it as a key part of my role to facilitate this environment.

*Members' Evening On the evening of Wednesday 18 November there is a workshop for 8-week course graduates. If you sign up for 8-week course you've very welcome to come along.

FAQs

What is the refund policy? You can cancel your registration up until the first day of the course. There is a cancellation fee of 40%. Once the course has started it's not possible to cancel your place.

Is my registration transferrable? It's not possible to transfer this registration to another course. You will need to cancel this booking and then rebook on the new course.

COVID-19

1. Mindful Space has put in place preventative measures to reduce the risk of spread of Covid-19 in our sessions including social distancing and the use of hand sanitisers. Mindful Space cannot guarantee that you will not become infected with Covid-19. You understand and accept this risk.

2. You agree to follow all government recommended guidelines regarding Covid-19 including self-isolating if you or anyone you live with, show any symptoms.

3. If you are unable to start the course due to Covid-19 you are free to transfer onto the next course which will start January 2021.

4. If, once the course has started, you are unable to continue due to Covid-19 you are welcome to re-enrol on another Mindful Space group course at any stage over the next 12 months. We will offer you a 50% discount off the course fee.
