The Braeval Street Black & White community Darkroom is a non-profit darkroom led by madeinroath. We are open for use by members and non-members every Tuesday evening (6pm-9pm) and Sunday mornings (10am-1pm).
Induction
All new darkroom users are required to do a brief induction session which provides an introduction to our facilities at the Darkroom and a briefing on health and safety procedures. Induction sessions cost £5 and are 15 minutes long. There are two weekly induction slots on Tuesdays at 5.45pm and on Sundays at 9.45am. To book these sessions please follow this link: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/cardiff-community-darkroom-printing-session-darkroom-induction-tickets-579426198357
Our Facilities
We have five enlargers set up for 35mm printing and a further two enlargers for medium format. We have chemicals for developing and printing, a large selection of trays, a heat press, film drying rack, development tanks, and lots of other darkroom equipment. All of this equipment is available to use free of charge by darkroom users.
Fees
You don’t have to become a member of the Darkroom in order to use our facilities. For non-members the cost per three-hour session is £20. For people wishing to become members the fee is £30 for 6 months and then £10 per session. This cost covers everything you will need to develop and print your film, apart from photographic paper.
We also have a supply of photographic paper which is available for darkroom users to buy for a small charge. Alternatively, you can bring your own paper if you prefer.
