Event description

Description

The Materials Research Network's inaugural conference connects researchers from across disciplines and Schools to start conversations and inspire collaborations. We'll provide as many interactions as possible to help attendees meet and learn about each other’s research.

The event cost is £60 for PhD students and PDRAs and £80 for everyone else including conference dinner, overnight accommodation and breakfast. A free coach to and from the St Pierre from the university will be available; please indicate if you would like transport on the registration page. Payment will be made by internal transfer. Any registrations after the deadline (see below) will be charged £100.


Plenary Speaker

Professor David Taylor, Professor of Materials Engineering at Trinity College Dublin, whose research expertise includes bioengineering, forensic engineering and fatigue and fracture of materials and components. He is a Member of the Royal Irish Academy and holds Fellowships of both Engineers Ireland and the Royal Academy of Medicine in Ireland. He is editor-in-chief of the Journal of the Mechanical Behavior of Biomedical Materials and a director of the Association of Consulting Forensic Engineers.


Contributed talks

Abstracts are welcomed for 15min research talks. A small number of shorter (5min) "flash" presentations are available for members wishing to raise awareness of facilities, services or capabilities relevant to the network. These could also be used to highlight specific challenges or calls for collaboration. Poster sessions are also available to showcase research and/or capabilities.

All abstracts (including posters) must be created using the template attached to the invitation email and sent to materialsresearch@cardiff.ac.uk by 10.00am on Monday 26th November 2018. These will be reviewed and the programme balanced to ensure representation across the Schools. Abstracts will be made available to all network members as a pdf.
