About this event

Wales has embarked on a comprehensive reform of the care system. The Radical Reform is grounded in the rights and dignities of care experienced children and young people.

The goal is to reduce the number of children and young people going in to care and to improve the quality of the care for those that do. To create a system that supports the long-term well-being of children looked after in Wales.

This course will share the lived experience of children and young people and how their voices influenced the May 2023 report on child centred reform If not now then when? including the creation of the Corporate Parenting Charter.

If you are a practitioner working directly with children and young people and young adults this interactive fully funded online course is for you. Children in Care often face extra challenges such as multiple home / school transitions and emotional trauma.

Learning Outcomes

  • Gain an understanding of Welsh Legislation & Practice relating to family support and the care system
  • What ‘Radical Reform’ means for children and young people
  • Have an understanding of the legislation and guidance supporting trauma informed, person centred practice
  • Gain skills for working with care experienced children and young people
  • Identify barriers and build resilience of children and young people

Who should attend?

This course is for anyone who comes in contact with care experienced children and young people through their role, or would like to understand more about what they can do to support positive outcomes for this group of young people.

The training has been funded through the Welsh Government saving your organisation the usual fee of £140.00 per attendee. This learning opportunity will benefit smaller organisations who struggle with funds to offer their staff training.

By continuing to offer these courses online, the training will remain accessible across the country, making it easier for people who have limits on travel or caring commitments, and encouraging a wide mix of people from different sectors and regions coming together in the same session to share experiences and learn from others.

When booking, please be mindful that you are able to attend.

Due to this being a free training session for you, if you are no longer able to attend, please let us know, substitutions can be made.

If you do not let us know at least 2 days before the training, Children in Wales reserves the right to charge a £50 non-attendance fee.

Please email training@childreninwales.org.uk to let us know.
