What are these events about?

We don’t need to tell you that the lockdown due to COVID-19 has been a challenging time for those of you with loved ones in care homes. With restrictions prohibiting visits, you may not have seen your relative or friend for several months. Perhaps you’ve had online contact through a computer screen, but we know this isn’t the same as seeing them in person – the lack of physical contact has been hard to deal with. If your relation is older, you have had the additional worry of the risk of COVID-19 and not being able to be with your loved one during periods of ill health.

Healthwatch Brighton and Hove and The Carer’s Centre are offering you the chance to speak to others in a similar situation. This will be a supportive space, allowing you to share with each other, the challenges of this emotional journey. You will have the opportunity to join anonymously to ensure you are comfortable talking to others about your personal experience.

You will also have the chance to feedback any good news stories from this period, as well as suggestions. We’d also love to hear your expectations for the future such as innovations the care home have introduced during lockdown to keep in touch, that you would like to see continue post-pandemic. Healthwatch is your consumer champion for health and social care in Brighton and Hove and we are able to share any issues, concerns and learning about good care experiences directly with senior doctors, nurses and decision makers.
