Career Conversations: Explore A Career in Law for non-law students

Interested in a career in law, but not sure how to get there? This is the event for you!
Whether you are studying English, Geography, History, Politics, Languages or indeed anything but Law… Whether you are a 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th year… this ‘Career Conversations’ event will help you to understand how to get into Law, as well as exploring some of the many different roles available as a lawyer.
A short presentation on routes into Law for non-law students, will be followed by a panel discussion exploring the career paths of QM alumni & guests, including quizzing them on their top tips and with plenty of time for your questions.
Sarah graduated from QMUL in 2009. She has a wide range of work experience within Law, including vacation schemes and paid work with Government, law firms and charities. She is currently completing her training contract with Low Carbon, a renewable energy investment company, and have just finished a six month secondment to CMS Cameron McKenna, a city law firm. She is due to qualify as a lawyer in November.
Natasha graduated from QM in 2011, undertook her two year training contract with Berwin Leighton Paisner, qualifying in 2015. She is now a Real Estate Associate at Eversheds.
Sarah Watkinson works at Ashurst LLP, a law firm in the City, advising on the legal aspects of UK and European real estate finance deals. She has been a partner at Ashurst for 10 years. Sarah read Medieval History at Durham University, before deciding to pursue a career in law. Her first job was with Slaughter & May. She has also worked at Clifford Chance and at US firm Cadwalader. At Ashurst, Sarah has been a member of the trainee recruitment committee for about 8 years, interviewing upwards of 20 students each year for training contracts with the firm.
Hannah very much hopes to join us coming straight from court in Leeds.
Hannah is a Barrister with Lamb Chambers, she graduated from QM in 2010 and has also worked for 4KBW, Chambers of Lawrence Power and as a Legal Editor at Thomson Reuters.
