Career management for researchers: Self-employment business planning

Dr Hiten Vyas: Business Adviser, Enterprise Club, the University of Northampton

By the time you complete your doctorate you will have acquired many transferable skills, some of which could perhaps lead you to starting your own business. In this, the second of two self-employment workshops, we will look at business planning. For anyone starting a business, your business plan acts as a unique roadmap to help start and develop your business, and is also an essential tool if you intend to look for financial investment. This workshop will cover the key topics to enable you to put together your first business plan..

This workshop follows on from a session on December 1st 2015 Self-employment - is it for you? If you missed this workshop you can make an appointment to see Hiten on a one-to-one arrangement (see below).

About Dr Hiten Vyas - Hiten is a business support professional with extensive experience in providing advisory and consulting services to both commercial and social businesses ranging from start-up companies to established SMEs to large organisations. He has also started two businesses of his own in the areas of educational software and life coaching. Hiten is based inside the Park Library at the University and is available to offer students and staff with one-to-one business advice, mentoring, and training to help them start-up and run enterprises.

This workshop is open to any student currently registered on a research degree programme at the University of Northampton. Further information is available from Simone Apel (; 01604 893418).
