Career WorkOut at Oakgrove School
Thu 9 February 2017, 14:00 – 15:00 GMT
How will the session run? Career WorkOut introduces students to work guests from different work backgrounds so they can find out what it’s really like in different jobs. In a one-hour speed-interview session, students interview each guest about their personal experiences of work. All WorkOut sessions give guests a chance to say what they do for work and why, find out more about young people today, network with guests from other local businesses and promote community cohesion.
You will be briefed on arrival by the Worktree team. You’ll join other work guests to answer questions from small groups of 4/5 students in a carousel, a bit like speed-dating. They’ll ask you open questions for approximately seven minutes about your job/career path for example how you got your job(s) and what it’s like for you. When the time is up the students move to the next guest, and so on until the end of the session. The session is facilitated by a member of the Worktree team. A short debrief will take place at the end of each session.
Do I need to print off a ticket? No, your name will be on the register when you arrive and all you need do is introduce yourself at the Oakgrove Leisure Centre Reception. Please say that you are here for Worktree.
Where do I go? WorkOut guests don’t need to sign into School through the reception as the events are taking place in the Community Hall which is part of the Oakgrove Leisure Centre. Their reception is directly opposite the School one. Please report to the foyer of the Leisure Centre where the staff there will direct you to the Community Hall.
What time do I need to arrive? Please report to the Oakgrove Leisure Centre Reception at 1.45pm.
Who is the School contact? The main School contact for this Initiative is Jane Sheard.
What are my transport/parking options getting to the event? Car parking and mobility spaces are available in the main School car park. Cycle parking is outside the main School entrance. For public transport options, please click here.
Are there ID or vetting requirements? No, there is no need for ID or vetting because a Worktree facilitator and a school teacher will be present at all times so guests will be supervised. Please ensure that you are never left alone with a student(s).
What can/can't I bring to the event? You don't need to bring anything, just be ready to answer the students' questions honestly. You can bring business cards for networking.
Is my registration/ticket transferrable? If you can't make it, please try to find a replacement and contact Bhupinder as soon as possible.
Safeguarding – If a student discloses a concern to you please do not ask any questions. Please inform a member of the Worktree team immediately who will take the next course of action.
