Description

A river of opportunities

Thames Skills Academy would like to invite you to its annual #CareersOnTheThames event which showcases the amazing breadth of careers available along the 95-mile stretch of the River Thames.

This free event is for careers advisers, teachers, youth leaders and anyone else who is contemplating a varied and exciting career on the river that runs through the heart of London.

The event takes place on board the fabulous Dixie Queen as part of the Totally Thames Festival on September 30th between 5pm and 7pm.

While you are taking a trip down the river you will have the opportunity to talk to some of the people who work on the Thames including engineers, skippers, deck hands, baristas, cabin crew, hydrographers and many more. You will also be able to find out about the apprenticeships we offer.

There will be a series of short talks from river operators, both passenger and freight, current apprentices and those who have recently qualified.

Refreshments will be served and you will have the chance to visit the on board careers fair which will provide the opportunity to chat with employers, learn about the different job vacancies and maybe even try your hand at new maritime skills.

During the two-hour trip you will also to get see the major infrastructure work and developments taking place down the ever-changing Thames. The trip will end with a spectacular raising of Tower Bridge to allow the Dixie Queen to pass through!

Guests are invited to board the Dixie Queen at Butler’s Wharf Pier (nearest tube London Bridge) and disembark at Tower Pier (nearest tube Tower Hill).

Places on the boat are limited, so please do register at your earliest convenience.
