An event to mark the start of carers week
About this event
A carer is anyone who cares for a friend or family member who, due to illness, disability, a mental health problem or an addiction, cannot cope without their support.
Research suggests that carers tend to suffer greater mental and physical stress than non-carers and do not look after themselves as well as they should, because they are so committed to the person/s they care for and put them first. Being a carer can often mean you do not have time to find support for yourself.
The visibility of carers has certainly been important over the past year and, as a society, we have become much more aware of their massive contribution. Events have seen many of us moving into new caring roles or changing the caring roles we already had.
At this event we will hear from Cilla Christmas, the Chair of the award winning Civil Service Carers Network, Liam Slattery, Yvonne Brown, Modupe Bolarin and Bernadette Thompson.
Come and lets celebrate our carers
