Description

Do you have cotume items in your collections and would like to know how best to care for them? This interactive day, delivered by a local textile conservator, will give practical advice on how to clean, store, display and handle these important textiles. 

Agrenda for the day:

10-00   Registration and coffee

Morning session:

10.30   Powerpoint talk: Factors in the deterioration of textiles and costume: what affects textiles and costume and            causes thier deterioration.

There will be a session to examine weak, faded examples to show the issues that can occur with degraded textiles

 11.30   Powerpoint talk: Simple conservation techniques (including safe handling, storage, display, surface                   cleaning, and pests).

There will be a session looking at examples of how to achieve these simple conservation techniques. 

 12.30-13.30 Lunch

Afternoon session (with break for tea)

 13.30 Practical sessions including: tissue padding, boxed and hanging storage, padded hangers and bags, simple hat mounts, labelling

16:00    Q&A and finish 

This training session is limited to 12 participants so please only sign up a maximum of 2 people per institution.
