Event description

Description

This is session 4/5 of the Quantitative Research Design workshop. The overall workshop aims to give attendees practical experience of designing studies capable of testing quantitative hypotheses. The workshop will be appropriate for anyone who wishes to develop their skills in critiquing and designing strong quantitative studies. Those with little experience of this type of research are particularly encouraged to attend.

The theme of the workshop will be 'developing and testing complex interventions', and this will be reflected in the order of the sessions.

Session 4/5 will consider ways to test the effectiveness of a complex intervention. Attendees should emerge feeling more confident in their abilities to critically engage with this literature, to judge whether a particular finding is likely to hold in the 'real world', and to design and test their own effectiveness trial. No knowledge of statistics will be assumed. Although we will highlight the key areas of research design that require statistical knowledge, we will leave any in-depth discussion of statistics for a future workshop.
