About this event

Travel & Outdoor • Hiking

Start Point: Gummers How car park (DO NOT use a postcode to find this car park - the confirmation email contains precise instructions)

Length: 8.4km (5.2 miles) with 296m (970ft) of ascent

Time: 4.5 hours (approx.)

Walk grade: 4 (see grade description below)

This walk starts from the Gummers How car park and climbs through Astley’s Plantation with excellent views across Windermere. The walk continues over Cartmel Fell to the Monument on Raven’s Barrow which looks down on the Lyth Valley. From here the route descends to visit St Anthony’s Church which includes several modern sculptures by Cumbrian artist Mark Hunt, before returning through woods and fields to the start point.

Paths are generally good but there are some sections that may be muddy and/or slippery in poor weather. There are some steep sections and other features such as stiles and kissing gates on the route.

Grade 4 walks are generally full day walks that include hilly ground and require a reasonable level of fitness. You might encounter climbs up some steeper sections. The surfaces may be rough and uneven, with rocky or muddy sections, and you may also find yourself walking up irregular steps, over stiles or through narrow gates and gaps.

Participants will need to dress appropriately for the terrain and weather and bring a packed lunch. Please see the main webpage for more details.

Your confirmation email will include full details - please read it carefully.
