Event description

Description

Award-winning cartoonist Tony Husband discusses his book Take Care, Son: The Story of My Dad and his Dementia, exploring the creative journey he experienced in conceiving the illustrations for his book.

When Ron Husband started to forget things - dates, names, appointments … daft things, important things - it took a while to realise that this was ‘a different form of forgetting’. But it was just the first sign of the illness that gradually took him away from the family he loved. Forming part of The Portico Library’s Reminiscence Project, Tony Husband will be talking about his work as a cartoonist and his inspiration and journey through creating the book Take Care, Son: The Story of My Dad and Dementia, a touching illustrated story framed as a chat between Tony and his dad.

Tony Husband has been a full-time cartoonist since 1984 and his cartoons have appeared in many newspapers, magazines, books and websites, including Private Eye, The Times, Punch, and The Spectator. Yobs, which he draws for Private Eye, is one of the best-known comic-strips in Britain.

The event will be followed by a book signing.

- 50% of the proceeds will be donated to the Alzheimer's Society -
