Event description

Description

Equity Sheffield Branch is very excited and honoured to welcome Casting Director Ben Cogan to the city.

You'll get an Insight into the Casting Process and how to prepare for your audition, be in your audition and embrace your audition!

In his workshop, Ben will explain how the casting process works and the most common pitfalls that actors fall into. He will also discuss how to approach and prepare for an audition, perform within it and essentially how to embrace and enjoy it!

Ben will be sent your Spotlight CV before and sides will be provided on the day - each actor will have two scenes to work on and perform ... with Ben offering both direction and scene dissection.

The seminar will end with a Q+A session.

Ben says ‘I am passionate about working with actors on behalf of production for the enjoyment of audiences. The role of the casting director plops them into the heart of a dramatic creation. Through working with writers and producers, they’re equipped to join forces with directors and introduce actors to the shoes of a character. It’s a beautiful and blessed role in a fantastic collaborative process and one I’m highly experienced in. Working with and for actors is my happy place. Whether it’s in an audition, workshop or drama school, a one-to-one tutorial or speaking on a panel: preparing the platform for the actor to perform to their best ability is my ultimate responsibility. Guiding, assisting and encouraging them to fly is what I’m here to do and it’s the best job in the world.’

After 15 years with the BBC - where he helped cast 38 episodes of Holby City, 225 of Eastenders, 345 of Doctors and 183 of Casualty, as well as short films including the Oscar nominated Wish 143 - Ben Cogan went freelance in 2015. For the last three years he has cast short films (After the Fray, Son of Perdition) and features (Just Charlie, Trendy) as well as 30 episodes of Apple Tree House and worked with Tom Hooper last year casting for the additional child roles on His Dark Materials.
