Join us for our FREE CIPD event kindly hosted by GCHQ, Scarborough.

We are thrilled to be holding our next CIPD event at GCHQ, Scarborough. This event will have 4 key sections of interest, firstly a welcome and a brief insight into the workings at GCHQ - known locally as "The Wireless Station", then Torque Law will take us through the key employment law updates for 2017. We will close with an exciting session by Paul Shaw, recently Head of Performance for the England Women’s Cricket Team.

There will also be opportunities available to take a tour of GCHQ 'Y' Service Museum, not normally open to the public.

Castle is the CIPD North Yorkshire Branch's Scarborough Regional Partner - we have been hosting these free informative seminar events for businesses in the area since 2009.

Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ) is one of the United Kingdom’s 3 main Intelligence and Security Services, the others being the Security Service (MI5) and the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6). GCHQ’s main ‘Strategic Objectives’ are to provide intelligence and information assurance to the UK Government and UK Military on ‘Counter Terrorism’, ‘Cyber Security’ and ‘Serious & Organised Crime’. GCHQ’s headquarters is located in Cheltenham in a building which the local community has named ‘The Doughnut’ because of its unique features and works through an extended enterprise of various sites around the UK, particularly but not exclusively, Scarborough and Bude. Scarborough is the oldest known Signal Intelligence station having first been commissioned in 1914, and serving both as a military (within the UK ‘Y’ Service) and civilian site. Historical records and equipment, and many other artefacts are currently on display in the Scarborough ‘Y’ Service Museum and you will have the opportunity to visit on the day.

12.00pm - 12.30pm: Arrival, Registration, Buffet Lunch and Networking

* Please note due to the security clearance required to enter the site you should plan to arrive no later than 11.45am.

12.30pm – 1.00pm: Tour of the GCHQ Museum (For the first 25 attendees)

1.00pm – 1.30pm: Welcome and introduction to GCHQ

1.30pm – 2.30pm: – Employment Law Update 2017- Torque Law

Specialist employment solicitors Tiggy Clifford & Emma Whiting from Torque Law will take us through the latest employment law developments, including proposals relating to family-friendly rights and benefits and caste discrimination as well as a looking at further developments in case law, compensation and employment status.

2.30pm – 2.45pm: - Refreshment Break

2.45pm – 3.15pm: – Paul Shaw – Inside Leadership.

Paul Shaw, whose career to date includes “Head of Performance” with the England Women’s Cricket Team joins us to share his expertise on “Creating High Performing Cultures” within the workplace. He will share lots of strategies in overcoming challenges and on how to achieve sustainable success during his 30-minute interactive session on leadership.

3.15pm – 4.00pm: Tour of the GCHQ Museum (For the second 25 attendees)

To enter the GCHQ site you will need to bring your Passport or Driving (photo) licence or Military ID. Any form of ID must be in date and original copies only. In the event of no photo ID, a birth certificate with a recent (within the last three months) utility bill will suffice.UK Nationals only permitted on-site.

For security reasons GCHQ, Scarborough does not allow visitors to move around their site unattended therefore please be prompt in arriving leaving yourself enough time to clear security at the beginning of the event. You will not be able to leave the site until the earliest 3.15pm unless of, course an emergency occurs.
