Event description

Description

As part of Leeds Digital Festival 2017, the Castleton Mill community are hosting a range of events and opportunities throughout the day for freelancers and graduates looking to get ahead in the creative industries.

A creative’s guide to earning a living from work you love

Can you really get paid to play and create? What are some of the challenges we face as artists and creative professionals in the 21st century? How do you stay true to your work and still get paid? To answer these questions and more, we are joined by Matt Essam, founder of Creative Life; the UK’s first accelerator programme, designed specifically for artists and creative professionals. Matt will tell his story which has led him from University all the way to through to full time creative consultant and coach.

He will be sharing the tools and techniques he has developed over the last five years, which now allow his clients to do more of the work they love and still get paid!

If you are embarking on the freelance journey, make sure you don't miss this talk!

There will be a Q&A session at the end of the session.

Bio: Matt Essam is the founder of Creative Life, a company with a simple mission: to abolish the concept of the starving artist. With more than half a decade of marketing and advertising experience, Matt is launching the UK’s first accelerator programme exclusively for artists and creative professionals. As an artist himself, Matt knows how hard it can be to earn a living from doing work you love and has had to learn everything the hard way. Matt is now using his knowledge, experience and contacts to help artist to think like entrepreneurs.
