Event description

Description

Radio 4’s The Kitchen Cabinet regular, author of Chasing the Dram and long-time Barcelona resident Rachel McCormack is teaching this special Catalan Cooking masterclass at the Cyrenians Community Cook School.

Described by former attendees as “like an informal dinner party that we all make together” this hands-on class will teach you how to make some of the classics of Catalan food while learning about the culture of the region, making new friends and having fun.

The menu may vary but will definitely include:

Catalan Tomato bread

Spanish tortilla (both much easier and much harder than you think)

Traditional croquetas

Escalibada (Catalan roast vegetables)

2 types of Catalan rice dishes (not paella but nearly)

Hazelnut crocanti in hazelnut milk with ice-cream

At the end of the class we will sit down and eat all the food we have prepared and you are invited to BYOB for the meal. If you wish to continue the Catalan theme then the most easily available Catalan wines are cava, wine from the Penedés or wine from Priorat.

Vegetarians and pescatarians can be catered for but two of the main dishes have gluten and almost all others all contain dairy and eggs. For any queries about food allergies or preferences please contact pamelatimms@cyrenians.scot

This special event is part of Cyrenians' social enterprise programme, raising funds to support the work we do changing lives through food - including classes on eating healthily on a budget and a network of community cook clubs.
