Cathy Dodd interviews Derek Air: South Devon Book Festival 2025

Derek Air is a writer and podcaster. Born in Aberdeen he has been playing Subbuteo for over 50 years and has been writing about it since 2020. His first book 'Land of the Giants: My Journey Through the World of Table Football' was published by Pitch Publishing in the Summer of 2024. His next book, 'Subbuteo Close Up: The Beauty of Table Football' is due out at the end of this year, also published by Pitch. A lifelong supporter of Aberdeen FC, he now lives in Dudley in the West Midlands with his long-suffering wife, Kirstie who does not play Subbuteo but nevertheless indulges her middle-aged husband's passion for what is essentially a child's toy.
