This is one of our most popular Quests. Many people who have lived on the island all their lives do not even know about this amazing secret cave hidden in the cliffs.
What is so special about the cave is that inside it is covered with images that have been carved into the sand stone, possibly over centuries. It is reputed to have been used by smugglers to collect their bounty from the boats and hide it away until it was safe to move it up the cliff face. The island was reportedly one of the biggest locations for smuggling activity in the UK.
Come along and learn more about the smuggling secrets this cave keeps hidden away. You will see for yourself why it was such a good location and why we limit the numbers of people we take on this Quest each year.
This is quite an arduous Quest with some uphill climbing in undergrowth. It is also very prone to tides and weather so dates advertised may be changed at short notice.
Bring a packed lunch and wear boots with a good grip (not wellies) as well as suitable outdoor clothing.
Please note this Quest is only open to those people who are part of a Nature Therapy CIC programme of support.
