CBA Archaeology Day

The annual CBA Archaeology Day will be held in York on 30 November 2018. It includes:

2018 Beatrice de Cardi Lecture

An exclusive chance for CBA members to hear about the results of the latest research at the important Mesolithic site at Star Carr in North Yorkshire during the 2018 Beatrice de Cardi lecture. Professor Nicky Milner, site director at Star Carr since 2004, will be giving us a wide-ranging survey of the results of the investigations over recent years.

Annual General Meeting

The annual opportunity for members to hear from the trustees and senior staff on the work of the CBA, discuss issues of concern, and sign off the accounts and other business relating to the governance of the charity.

The Marsh Archaeology Awards

The Marsh Christian Trust fund three awards: Community Archaeologist of the Year, Young Archaeologist of the Year, and the Marsh Award for Community Archaeology. The 2018 winners of the three awards will be announced and presentations made to the winning nominees.

1.30pm Event opens for registration

2pm-3pm 2018 Beatrice de Cardi Lecture

3pm-4pm Opportunity to visit book stalls and view archaeological material and scientific specimens from Star Carr and speak to members of the Star Carr team. Tea, coffee and cake will be served.

4pm-5pm AGM

5pm-5.30pm Presentation of the 2018 Marsh Archaeology Awards

5.30pm-6.30pm Drinks reception

10.30am-12.30pm Guided walk around York with CBA Case Worker, Bob Sydes: 'New Buildings in Historic Places'. Free of charge, limited spaces available, please book below. Meet at the fountain in Exhibition Square.

About the Beatrice de Cardi Lecture

Beatrice de Cardi was first Assistant Secretary and latterly Secretary of the Council for British Archaeology from 1949 to 1973. In order to recognise her outstanding contribution to the CBA and to the archaeology discipline, the Council decided in 1976 to inaugurate a series of lectures, to be named after her in recognition of her outstanding contributuon to archaeology and to the CBA. The speakers are given the freedom to discuss their own approach to any aspect of British archaeology.
