Event description

Description

CBA London is celebrating the Festival of Archaeology this year with a two-in-one event.

First, we'll be visiting the excavations being undertaken by Enfield Archaeological Society on the site of the Tudor Elsyng Palace. One of the society's members will be explaining the history of the site over the past five centuries and what the excavations have revealed this year.

After that, we'll going into Forty Hall, the historic Grade I listed house in whose grounds Elsyng once stood. The Hall has undergone extensive restoration in recent years, and the grounds contain formal and informal gardens, lawns and meadows, lakes and ponds. Forty Hall is running special events during the day and a cafe is available for refreshments - though it could also be the ideal place for a summer picnic.

There is a car park and the site can also be reached by public transport. If possible CBA London's events coordinator, Becky Wallower, may be able to offer a lift from one or other of the local stations. The site tour will start at 1pm, so we'll gather people together in the car park at about 12.30pm.

As usual, this event will be open initially only to CBA London members who may book for themselves and one other person. If the event sells out, we will operate a waiting list, and if there are still places after 12th July, we will open to non-members. Our policy is only to give refunds if the event is fully booked and your place can be filled by someone on the waiting list.
