Event description

CBA13 will bring together practitioners, grassroots representatives, local and national government planners, policymakers and donors working at all levels and scales to discuss how we can drive ambition for a climate-resilient future.

CBA13 offers an innovative and interactive space, enabling the CBA network to promote climate action through:

  • Inclusive, gender-transformative and meaningful engagement
  • Sharing and collaborating around good practice and challenging assumptions
  • Drawing on evidence to inform the scalability of effective approaches
  • Influencing and shaping decision making processes.

The conference will have three key themes:

  • Climate finance: what are the mechanisms and enabling environments needed for climate finance to flow at scale to support effective adaptation?
  • Adaptation technology: how can long-term and existing, as well as the wave of new and emerging, technologies and practices be harnessed to build resilience?
  • Policy engagement: how can the wealth of learning generated through widespread experiences of local climate action best inform the policies of the most vulnerable countries?

There will be a combination of parallel and plenary sessions, including:

  • Marketplace sessions

  • Skill share sessions

  • Open space sessions for 'Burning issues' and 'Big ideas'

  • Thematic sessions

  • Dragons' den

During the registration process you will be given the opportunity to contribute to the design of these sessions.

About the organisers

CBA is organised in partnership, by IIED and CARE, the Climate Justice Resilience Fund, the Global Resilience Partnership, Irish Aid, Practical Action and the Red Cross Red Crescent Climate Centre.

Tickets include registration for the four-day event, lunch and refreshments throughout each conference day, a welcome dinner on 1 April, and an online information pack.

Tickets exclude travel, accommodation, visas and travel insurance.

Full venue and accommodation information will follow upon confirmation of registration. We will also send regular email updates including information about the venue, hotels and logistics, guidance on travel and visa processes, as well as news and programme updates.

We are offering a limited number of subsidised tickets of £400 for participants from the global South with limited resources in order to ensure more diverse and inclusive participation. Reduced tickets are available to students, representatives of community-based organisations or small NGOs based and working in the global South and who do not have support from international/global organisations, with a focus on women and young people. If you choose the reduced ticket, you will be asked to show supporting documentation demonstrating how this subsidy applies to you upon arrival at CBA13.

To access reduced price tickets, when registering include the optional promotional code CBA13SUBSIDY.

We have been fundraising in order to support participants who cannot meet the full or reduced registration fees. It is not yet confirmed whether further funding will be made available to cover the cost of registration and/or travel. On the basis that funding becomes available, to apply for a sponsored place please submit a short video introducing yourself and why you want to attend. This video should be no more than 2 minutes long and should be submitted via this online form. More details on how to submit an application can be found on the online form.

In order for this event to take place the full cost of tickets has been subsidised by the organising partners. We are committed to making CBA13 fair and accessible to all, which is why we are offering a limited discount rate for representatives from the global South. If you’d like more information on the ticketing policy, please contact cbaconference@iied.org.

Travel and accommodation

You are responsible for arranging your own travel, accommodation, visa and travel insurance. Once registered you will receive information on the venue and nearby hotels.

We have been told by our CBA partners based in Ethiopia that everyone needs to apply for a “conference visa” (which is a type of business visa for to the Department for Immigration) (see https://www.evisa.gov.et/#/home, and https://www.evisa.gov.et/#/conference-visa). Immigration is very strict in Ethiopia. A key requirement for a conference visa is to present a letter of invitation from the host organisation based in Ethiopia. In the case of CBA13 the Government of Ethiopia, through the Environment, Forest and Climate Change Commission, has accepted to be our host and co-organiser.

For people from countries that require a visa to enter Ethiopia, our government partners are offering to arrange visas-on-arrival for all CBA participants. Please complete this Google form to provide us with your passport information to be added to the visa-on-arrival list. This list will be presented to the appropriate govt entity on March 15 and you will then receive a letter that will serve as your necessary documentation to travel to Ethiopia.

Please get in touch with Amy Gibson amy.gibson@iied.org if you think you will need to secure your visa before travelling.

Registration and payment methods

Payments can be made by Mastercard, Visa, Visa Debit and American Express credit cards. Please have your card details ready when registering, as well as your passport information.

After you have completed the registration and payment process, you will receive a confirmation email from Eventbrite. Please keep this confirmation email for future reference.

If you have any difficulties registering, please email cbaconference@iied.org.

Paying by card is the safest, easiest and quickest way to complete your registration, however, if you are unable to do so and would like to pay via bank transfer, please complete this online form.
