Aim of CBCT IRMER course

To allow referring Dental consultants / specialists an introduction and overview of CBCT in order to comply with current guidelines.

It may be useful for supporting DCPs to attend. The course will be however primarily aimed at the clinician.

The aim is to bring the delegates up to a level 2A competence by the end of the course.

Level 2B Sirona certification will be issued post this course after between 3 and 5 CBCT cases have been submitted to Dr Neil Heath externally, for duel reporting of a CBCT volume (CD) and a `reflection` submitted for formative assessment.

(This CBCT course is a generic course that allows a number of different CBCT image presentations to be assessed and is not Sirona specific.)

Learning Objectives

- an understanding / overview of how to safely refer and justify CBCT (IRMER Referrer and Practitioner roles.)

-where applicable, the ability to operate the CBCT scanner safely in the IRMER Operator role and know when to ask for advice.

-the delegate to have a knowledge of the current Radiation protection legislation surrounding CBCT

- an understanding of Radiation dosages and how patient dose is potentially affected by the CBCT imaging modality.

- an ability to recognise normal 3D CBCT anatomy and appreciate common pathologies that may appear in the Field of View (FOV)

- an ability to structure a CBCT report IRMER Operator (Reporter role) for those using small volume CBCT.

- an ability to refer ` small volume CBCT acquisitions` for a specialist radiological opinion .




Day1 -09:30-13:00

-Introduction to the CBCT course- highlights the current parameters in which CBCT is utilised. NH

-CBCT anatomy 3D introduction (IRMER Operator reporter/ some pathological presentations on CBCT) NH

-CBCT anatomy practical (CBCT cases) on work stations /laptops- most provided by Sirona NH/GP

Day 1- 14:00- 16:30

-Introduction to basic Radiological /CBCT reporting principals with protocols. NH

-Interactive problem solving Radiological/ clinical exercises. NH

- CBCT Reporting- how to structure a report NH

-CBCT Reporting practical workshop NH

- Data protection overview GP



Day 2 09:30-13:00

CBCT IRMER legislation overview (IRMER Referrer & Practitioner roles). NH

CBCT Physics - what influences patient radiation dose. NH/GP

More CBCT reporting exercises. NH/GP

Day2 13:30-14:30

CBCT- when to use 2D or 3D imaging in Dentistry -presentation and discussion.

At the end of this course you will have completed Dentsply Sirona Level 2 part A CBCT radiology course.

To aid those delegates who would like to submit the required scans for review to get the Part B section, we have put together a Dentsply Sirona Update course. This will allow you bring in your own scans for review and to further enhance your CBCT skillset

Aims

1. To allow delegates to build on the CBCT knowledge and skills from the level2A course.

2. Provide a platform from which they can report their own CBCT scans max 6 over the day with support. Q&A with any issues that arise. These can form learning points for the group.

3. Allow didactic teaching from Dr N Heath on bone diseases that can present on scans. ( 1 formal lecture)
