Skills of the future
The energy transition is changing the world of work by creating the need for new professional figures and offering unprecedented employment opportunities. In the midst of these developments, technological change and automation are reshaping the employment landscape. With a cohort of working adults entering the workforce and those already within it how can your business provide lifelong learning opportunities that will meet the needs of industry?

SMEs: New engines of clean growth
The low carbon economy is growing rapidly presenting opportunities to create new products and services. In the UK, SMEs account for more than 90% of the low carbon sector, driving innovation, growth and job creation. SMEs are therefore critical to, and a key indicator for, the present success and future potential of the low carbon economy. How can policies be created to support the role of small businesses in the transition to a low carbon economy?

Future of Mobility
It is increasingly important the Industrial Strategy delivers its aim for the UK to remain a top destination for investment, innovation and shared prosperity. The Northern Powerhouse has a vast number of opportunities to be a leader in the development and implementation of Future of Mobility. How can we build upon the region’s strengths by creating new industries and transforming existing ones linked to this exciting development?

14:20 COFFEE BREAK

14.35 Keynote Address, including Q&A:

15:05 Competing to win, the race to net-zero (panel discussion)
In the last year climate change has received unprecedented attention, not least due to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change call for the need to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees but the UK’s Committee on Climate Change recommendation for a Net- Zero UK by 2050. It is at the heart of the public debate too with protests from school children and Extinction Rebellion sweeping the country. The case for action is overwhelming and with a history of progressive climate change policy how can the UK capitalise on this moment to lead on the global stage?
