Event Details

We are delighted to announce the confirmation of our two keynote speakers for the CBI East of England Annual Dinner at Ely Cathedral on 21 September.

We will be joined on the evening by two very insightful and interesting speakers: Alastair Campbell and Paul Drechsler CBE.

Alastair Campbell is a writer, communicator and strategist best known for his role as former British Prime Minister Tony Blair’s spokesman, press secretary and director of communications and strategy. Still active in politics and campaigns in Britain and overseas, he now splits his time between writing, speaking, charities and consultancy. He has written eleven books in the past eight years, including six volumes of diaries, three novels, a personal memoir on depression and the pursuit of happiness, and most recently Winners and How They Succeed, a Number 1 best-selling analysis of what it takes to win in politics, business and sport.

We will also be joined by CBI President, Paul Drechsler CBE. Paul is currently Chairman of Bibby Line Group which is headquartered in Liverpool. Paul is also Chairman of the board of the charity Teach First and a board member of Business in the Community and Chairman of its Education Leadership Team. Paul was elected as CBI president in 2015, he has been a member of the CBI Board since 2012 and was Chairman of the CBI Energy Policy Committee between 2007-2012. In February 2015, he was honoured by Her Majesty The Queen with an Honorary CBE for services to the construction industry. Before joining Bibby Line Group, Paul was Chief Executive of the privately-owned construction firm Wates Group.
