Ravel Le Tombeau de Couperin, 17′
Korngold Violin Concerto, 25′
Berlioz Symphonie fantastique, 59′
Fantastique by name, Fantastic by nature! When Hector Berlioz couldn’t win the girl of his dreams he poured all his unrequited passion into this opium-fuelled extravaganza. Young British star Nicholas Collon brings all his colour and flair – and shares two twentieth century favourites. At the height of the Great War, Ravel dreams of a gentler past while old Vienna goes to Hollywood in Korngold’s luscious Violin Concerto.
CBSO+ 1pm: Music writer and Austrophile Gavin Plumley shares his enthusiasm for Korngold.
