About the Session

Ever heard of this strange LaTeX thing you may have seen around? Maybe your university is trying to show you LaTeX for your undergraduate/Masters/PhD thesis? It’s a typesetting system, not unlike the Markdown that Discord uses, or the standard HTML stuff that sites like Outlook use, or the things that office suites use for things like fonts and italics.

But did you know there’s another thing in town? LaTeX? It’s a complete opposite of the “what-you-say-is-what-you-get” editing stile you’re probably used to. And it’s not just for nerdy science stuff… sure, you can make journal and conference papers with neatly written formulas and graphs in LaTeX, but did you know that people write books with LaTeX? Heck, you can even make a slideshow with it!

In this workshop, you will learn all about the very basics of how LaTeX works, how one can write a basic paper, then something with chapters, how to make lists and embed images using figures, and even how to make a slideshow! This will add yet one more tool to your document-making arsenal!

You’ll have the chance to explore:

  1. About LaTeX
  2. Why use it?
  3. Basic Typing (including lists and LaTeX quirks)
  4. Figures
  5. Escape characters
  6. Write a paper/chapter
  7. Title pages and TOCs
  8. Maths mode
  9. Slide shows
  10. Where to learn more...

What I will need to get the best of the workshop:

  • Bring USB Drive or Save it in the Cloud.
  • Laptop (optional)
  • Basic knowledge of any popular Office Suite like Microsoft Office (Applications like MS Word,MS PowerPoint,MS Excel),Apple Pages, Sheets,Keynote, Libre Office or Only Office etc.
  • Curosity
