How the mind escapes the here and now: Towards a component process of the mind-wandering state
The human mind is not always focused on events in the here and now. The frequency of states like daydreaming and mind-wandering in human experience demonstrate that as a species we spend large proportions of time engaged in thoughts and feelings that are unrelated to immediate environmental input. This talk will consider studies that combine experience sampling with the measures of psychology and neuroscience to reveal the component processes that underpin the ability to spontaneously escape from the here and now and the capacity to generate thoughts that are discrepant from the ongoing perceptual input.
Refreshments will be provided prior to the seminar
