Ceilidh Music Workshop
Sat 15 July 2017, 14:00 – 18:00 BST
After the success of the fun ceilidh music workshop last summer, Paul Hutchinson has agreed to run another workshop for anyone who would like to become more confident in playing with a ceilidh band. Join Paul, musician, performer and teacher for a day learning ceilidh jigs, polkas and reels with the chance to then perform with Paul for the ceilidh in the evening.
All musicians are welcome, you will just need to be able to be confident sight-reading sheet music (around Grade 3 or equivalent). All the music will be sent out in advance so there is a chance to familiarise yourself with the tunes before the day. Paul will then expertly lead the group and by the end of the workshop you can join him on stage to play as part of the band for the evening ceilidh in Nunney Village Hall!
Children are welcome to attend the workshop as long as they are able to read music at Grade 3 level. There is however a ceilidh music workshop specifically for children, date to be confirmed.
Paul is a renowned accordionist, playing both solo and in bands including Belshazzar's Feast, Hoover the Dog and Pagoda Project. He has taught diverse groups of musicians for many years in both the UK and abroad including Folkworks Summer School at Durham University, Halsway Manor Centre of Traditional Music, Sidmouth Folk Festival and the prestigious Benslow Music Centre in Hertfordshire. Participants enjoy his laid back approach and easy way of encouraging musicians of all abilities to achieve great things whilst having a lot of fun in the process!
The workshop will be on Saturday June 15th from 2-6pm in Nunney Village Hall, near Frome, Somerset. Refreshments will be provided. There will be the chance to explore the historic village of Nunney before performing in the ceilidh band from 7.00pm. Food will be available to buy from the village hall from 6.30pm or you may prefer to bring some food with you or sample the menu at the local village pub, The George.
The cost for the workshop is £25 (excluding Eventbrite tax).
Workshop price includes entrance to the ceilidh and you are welcome to either play in the band for the ceilidh, join in the dancing or a bit of both!
Please ensure that you give your correct email address as all music will be emailed to you before the event. I will also contact you to find out what instrument you play before the event to check the music is in the right key.
