Celebrating African Women in Wales: empower and engage
Fri 10 March 2017, 17:00 – 20:00 GMT
“African Women’s Rights are Human Rights and Human Rights are African Women’s Rights”
"There is NO single story of Africa or her women, so we're placing our voices front & centre as we fight for our rights and freedoms!"
Let’s Celebrate the unique stories of African women through music, food and conversation!
This year’s theme for International Women’s Day is ‘Be Bold for Change’ which aims to highlight the importance of all of us being forces for change in our fight for gender parity.
In line with this theme, SSAP is holding a project launch for its largest international project to date: TuWezeshe Akina Dada Africa/UK Young Women’s Empowerment Movement. Along with a consortium of partners, the Project focuses on improving the rights and amplifying the voices of young women in the diaspora and across East Africa in their fight against gender-based violence.
This event will highlight the importance of empowering young women to become leaders in their communities and to challenge issues that affect them. We will:
Recognise the rights of African women and young girls in the community and around the world.
Commemorate the successes of African women and young girls in the community and around the world for their economic, political and social achievements.
Empower young African women to become leaders and change-makers in the community.
The event will emphasise the importance of working together – the community, young people, professionals and policy-makers. It will be a chance to socialise and get empowered!
Speakers for the Day:
