About this event

Holiday • Other

Independence Day, also known as October First, is an official Holiday in Nigeria, celebrated on the 1 October and spanning back to 1960. On this day the president makes an opening address followed by streets filled with green and white celebrations.

On Independence Day, restaurants, shops, and markets are open as normal, making the most of the celebrations and helping families to prepare big meals for gatherings. The event is celebrated by all Nigerians both at home and abroad.

To help celebrate, we would love you to join us in the Atrium on 1 October between 12:00PM and 2:00PM. Open to all students, staff and the local community, expect visual displays and traditional giveaways. Traditional dress encouraged or feel free to wear green and white!

This event is running as part of the university’s BeConnected Programme, designed to help you enjoy your time on campus, take a breather from studies/work, and meet new people. Sound up your street? Simply book your space below.

Event is subject to change and complimentary offerings available while stocks last, on a first come first served basis. This event forms part of our Be Connected programme, available on the University of Stirling website. Please contact events@stir.ac.uk for all associated queries.
