A day of talks, films, tours celebrating the life and work of Walter Segal. Learn about this pioneering architect and the self-build movement.
Walter Segal developed a self-build method that made it easier for people to build their own houses. He led successful housing schemes in Lewisham, south London in the 1980s. There are around 200 Segal homes in the UK. He is the only architect to have two London streets named after him, chosen by the residents.
The day will include:
Speakers: John Segal (Walter's son) John McKean (Segal's biographer), Jon Broome (architect and self-builder who worked with Segal), and others
Shiree Allen - Segal-inspired art
Film: The House that Mum and Dad Built (1983) about the building of Segal close.
Tour of Walters Way.
