Celebrating World Teachers' Day: Focus on EAL
Event Information
Description
The British Council is organising an evening event on 3 October as part of the celebrations for World Teachers' Day. The event will launch the EAL Nexus website and will provide a forum for discussions around English as an additional language (EAL) in UK schools.
‘Celebrating World Teachers' Day: Focus on EAL' will provide an opportunity for the audience to take part in group discussions debating key questions in the area of English as an additional language such as:
- What resources can support EAL learners in class?
- Why is it important for children and young people to use first language as a tool for learning?
- What kind of pedagogy is best for EAL learners? How can teachers develop their practice to suit the needs of EAL learners in their class?
- What should a best practice school language policy include for EAL learners?
- How can schools create and sustain parental/community/international links?
The British Council will also take this opportunity to present their work with teachers and schools and to launch the new British Council EAL Nexus website dedicated to supporting EAL learners and providing teachers with information and curriculum-based resources.
The presentations and group discussions will be followed by plenary discussions and an opportunity for networking.
Registration for this celebratory event will take place at 17:45 BST on 3 October at the British Council offices in Spring Gardens, London.
