Event description

The Welsh Quiz Association are delighted to invite quizzers from Ireland, Scotland and Wales to join us in Cardiff for the 6th Celtic Nations Quizzing Championships.

The tournament includes Individual and Pairs competitions and a range of social quizzes, all of which are open to everyone. The national A, B and C squads for Ireland, Scotland and Wales will also face each other in two rounds of Team matches which you are very welcome to watch. Where will the event be held?

Most of the quizzes will be held in the Duchess Suite, with National B and C Team matches in the Raglan and Pembroke Suites. All rooms are on the first floor of the hotel but are fully accessible.

How much will it cost?

As our friends from Ireland and Scotland are travelling to us there will not be an entry fee for Irish and Scottish quizzers. We will however ask that Welsh competitors pay £10 to cover hosting expenses and this can be paid at the event itself. Please note that no food or drink is included; an optional evening meal will be organised but this will be charged separately.

Who can take part?

All of the quizzes are open to anyone, however to be eligible to compete for one of the Celtic Nations you will need to;

  • Have been born in that nation; or
  • Have a parent or grandparent born in that nation; or
  • Have the relevant citizenship and have lived continuously in that nation for at least three years

How can I get to the venue?

Train - The hotel just a few minutes walk from Cardiff Queen Street station which has frequent services to Cardiff Central to connect with services to the rest of the UK.

Plane - Cardiff Airport has direct flights from Dublin, Belfast and Cork in Ireland and Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen in Scotland, as well as flights from Anglesey. A shuttle bus connects the Airport to Rhoose station which has direct trains to Cardiff Queen Street.
