Description

Introductory advocacy training session covering school exclusions

Communities Empowerment Network’s advocacy training gives the opportunity to learn more about the school exclusion process in education and what measures parents, carers and advocates can take to represent children and young people experiencing problems in education.

Who should attend?

  • Parents who want to gain the essential skills and knowledge to empower themselves and other parents that have children at risk of school exclusion or who have been excluded.
  • Community members, educators, special educational needs teachers, law students and practitioners who would like to develop their understanding of advocacy and school exclusions.
  • Anyone interested in becoming a Volunteer Advocate for Communities Empowerment Network helping us to meet the huge demand for our services.

What will I get out of the workshop?

  • Understand the parent’s and child’s perspective.
  • Understand the school environment and types of exclusion that schools enforce.
  • Identify when children are more likely to be at risk at of exclusion and the strategies to put in place to avoid exclusion.
  • Increase your knowledge about the legal aspects of exclusion.
  • Understand the importance of recording information and how to ask critical questions to prepare an effective case.
  • Opportunity to become a CEN Volunteer Advocate or Empowerment Volunteer.

We have a huge demand for our training and we are only able to hold a few of these workshops each year. For past attendees, the content is roughly the same as the previous Advocacy Training days we have held with some extra material relating to exclusions prevention and early intervention.
