About this Event

It is now less than five months until the Census in England and Wales takes place on 21 March 2021. It is essential that we get it right and that the whole population has the chance to provide the information that can help to ensure their communities are well served. To ensure that the benefits of a census can be realised, we are aiming for Census 2021 to deliver the most flexible outputs in the shortest time frame yet, to better meet the wide-ranging needs of census data users.
In this session we will share our progress, aims and dissemination plans for the suite of Census 2021 products, services and outputs. These include features such as a new flexible dissemination system and new innovative products incorporating more data visualisation. It will also cover how our statistical disclosure control methods ensure that statistical outputs provide as much value and utility as possible to users while protecting the confidentiality of information about individuals, households and organisations.
Aims:
• Share the lessons learnt from the 2011 Census, the 2018 Output consultation and ongoing user research.
• Demonstrate how Census 2021 outputs and dissemination approaches will be flexible, timely and accessible.
• Outline the proposed suite of Census 2021 outputs, products and services.
• Describe the methods for protecting confidentiality in Outputs (statistical disclosure control).
• Consider how ONS and Census users can work together to assess the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on using census outputs.
