Event description

Description

Manchester's Central Library is a circular gem that sits like a full stop at the end of Oxford Road. When it was being built in the 1930's the locals called it the "Corporation wedding cake" and after a £48million refit for the twenty-first century, it still contains riches beyond compare.

We will see one of the most important music libraries in the UK, Manchester's first gold record and lots of quirky details as we look around this fine municipal building.

Manchester has a proud history of libraries. Education and self-improvement have been key to advancement here. Central Library is a social, architectural and civic gem befitting a proud city. Come and look around.
