Description
Join us for a peace walk that will be stopping at diverse places of worship to raise awareness of the Srebrenica genocide and to celebrate diversity of communities in the UK.
The Srebrenica peace walk will commence at the Liberal Jewish Synagogue, walk to St James's Piccadilly Church, before finishing at Al-Manaar, the mosque providing shelter and support to the survivors of the Grenfell tower. Participants will have a unique opportunity to visit the above-mentioned places of worship, hear about their history and learn about different religious rituals in Islam, Liberal Judaism and Christianity.
The Peace Walk is organised in remembrance of more than 10,000 men that fled Srebrenica to safe territory; most of them perished on the way with only 3,000 reaching their destination. Remembering Srebrenica community champions and supporters will be walking in solidarity with the survivors of the genocide in Peace Walks across the UK, which mirror the "mars mira" walk which takes place annually from Tuzla to Srebrenica.
Similar peace walks will be taking place in other cities across the UK, including Birmingham and Manchester. At a time when there is so much to be concerned about with rising hate crime, our objective is to spread a positive message of peace. Join the Remembering Srebrenica team of community champions, supporters and volunteers on what promises to be a memorable day marking the end of Srebrenica memorial week.
Starting at 11am at the Liberal Jewish Synagogue. The peace walk will finish by 3pm.
