About this event

  • Event lasts 5 hours 30 minutes

Join the Migration Museum and National Museums Liverpool for a day-long, in-person event at the Museum of Liverpool exploring how to bring diverse stories into museum collections. This event is part of a series of sessions run by the Migration Network.

Our morning session will feature a range of voices from Liverpool, including museum experts, community members, and local artists, in a series of presentations sharing insights into co-production work at the World Museum and the redevelopment of the Maritime Museum, featuring Luma Creations, amongst others. The morning will also include an exclusive look at how National Museums Liverpool is creating a new gallery through collaborative practice in a dedicated workshop. We'll tackle key questions like: How do you do this work? What's going well, and what challenges are we facing? How can a national organisation innovate alongside longstanding permanent spaces?

After a network lunch (provided by the Museum of Liverpool), the afternoon offers you the chance to experience National Museums Liverpool. Choose between a tour of the Old Dock, a curator-led tour of one of the museum's brilliant galleries, or a city centre tour as part of Liverpool's 2025 Biennial Celebration.

Please note: Registration closes on 20 August.

Travel Arrangements: The Migration Museum is committed to supporting the work of centring diverse stories in cultural spaces, and believe that monetary limitations should not exclude anyone from participating in this event. We are therefore offering travel bursaries to make the day as accessible as possible, no matter your background and position. These are particularly targeted at individuals who are on insecure contracted positions, work freelance, work in smaller institutions without funding, and/or are experiencing financial hardship. These bursaries are on a first-come, first-served basis.

After registration, you will be sent a follow up email with information on how to apply.

About the Migration Network: The Migration Network is a dynamic, knowledge-sharing initiative uniting museums, heritage organisations, charities, academics, and other professionals across the UK and beyond. Convened by the Migration Museum, the Network provides a platform for dialogue, collaboration, and the exchange of best practices in exploring migration and its impact on society.

The Migration Museum  is shining a light on the many ways that the movement of people to and from Britain across the ages has shaped who we are –as individuals, as communities, and as a nation. We are doing this through the creation of an inspiring national Migration Museum, a far-reaching nationwide education programme,  and a knowledge-sharing network of museums and galleries across the UK.

We are currently based at a venue in the heart of Lewisham Shopping Centre, south London.
