The UCL Centre for Education Policy and Equalising Opportunities (CEPEO) are pleased to offer this training opportunity in partnership with Administrative Data Research (ADR) UK.
Delivered by expert users of the data, this online training course will provide new users with insight into the content of the National Pupil Database (NPD) and a number of the administrative datasets of which it forms a key part: Longitudinal Education Outcomes (LEO), Grading and Admissions Data England (GRADE) and Growing Up In England (GUiE).
This event comprises three sessions:
Session 1: 9.30am-12.30pm on Tuesday 23rd September 2025
Session 2: 10am-12pm on Wednesday 24th September 2025
Session 3 (optional): 10-11am on Friday 26th September 2025
Participants are asked to attend both Sessions 1 and 2 wherever possible.
In Session 1, we will provide a high-level overview of NPD, LEO, GRADE and GUiE, and showcase some of the research questions that can be addressed using these datasets. For example, we will hear how researchers have been using the NPD to understand how schools can diversify their intakes; what new insights we can obtain about young people’s education and labour market trajectories and how they vary across groups from LEO; and about the impact of predicted, teacher-assessed grades on university application decisions using GRADE.
In Session 2, we will provide a more detailed overview of the application process associated with each of these datasets and in the optional third session participants will have the opportunity to book short one-to-one appointments to discuss questions relating to their own research questions or data applications. There will also be plenty of opportunities to ask questions in earlier sessions too.
