About this event

Looking to try some creative activities in 2024? Come along to MAKE studios in Ayr to try your hand at both Riso printing and Ceramic collage with artists Laura Lightbody and Saskia Jae Singer all in the one day!

This exciting new workshop involves experimenting with papers and collages to create your very own run of colourful Riso prints in the first part of the day, before using the same inspiration materials later in the afternoon, to create your own ceramic collage using enamels and blank tiles. Riso printing is a sustainable printing process that uses vegetable, soya based ink- similar to screen printing!

Why not book your spot in this packed day of creating, whilst celebrating all things colour, shape and pattern!

Morning event 10am-12.15pm:

Participants are introduced to the riso process in the morning slot playing about with papers making up black and white images before taking it to the Riso printer and generating their images.

Refreshment Break - 30 mins participants are welcome to bring along their lunch. Tea, coffee, sourdough pastries and lunch from Narture's bakery/ cafe will be provided.

Afternoon event 12.45 pm- 3pm:

Using the Cricut machine we can cut out the same shapes from the enamel papers before applying them to a plate/tile. The pieces will then be taken away and fired and return within two weeks to participants.

By the end of the whole day each participant will have a selection of Riso prints and a corresponding piece of ceramics decorated in their own motifs.

About the Artists

Laura Lightbody trained at the Glasgow School of Art and works in the south-side of Glasgow as a ceramicist and teacher. She specialises in slip-cast ceramics decorated with bold, coloured enamel motifs. The surface patterns she develops are inspired by graphics and patterns taken from the everyday. She relishes focusing on intricate details that are often overlooked to create patterns that are simple yet eye-catching. To supplement her 3D work she also produces drawings, collage and Riso prints. Her striking forms and artwork are handmade, and hand decorated, ensuring each one is truly a one-off.
