Age: 18+ (on completion)

Duration: Minimum of 20 hours, over 3 days: two 8 hour days followed by one 4 hour day.

Location: Trent & Mersey Canal between Preston Brook and Middlewich.

Price: £345 per person

Experience: Successful completion of the Boat Handling Course and/or some experience of working with groups and practical boating experience. We can provide an assessment of skills prior to the course, on request.

Further information: This course is the final in a set of three courses leading to competence as a captain of a community canal boat. Fully endorsed by the Canal and River Trust and recommended as an inland waterway qualification in the Small Passenger Boat code, issued by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, this course draws on current best practice, as supplied by member organisations of the NCBA. The aim of the course is to give operators of boats on non-tidal waterways training in boat handling, boat maintenance and the management of group safety and welfare. Successful candidates qualify to operate boats with a maximum of 12 passengers, on non-tidal inland waterways in the UK.

A minimum of FOUR candidates is required to run a course. We reserve the right to cancel any course where this requirement is not met.

Individuals are responsible for their own transport costs to and from the course location. Further details will be sent upon registration.

Successful candidates will receive a course certificate and a photo ID card and lanyard from the NCBA.

The NCBA suite of courses is managed by accredited training centres which are monitored and supported to maintain the standards set in the NCBA regulations. Courses are moderated by visits from a senior trainer to establish that content and teaching standards are consistently met.
