About this event

This highly informative and wide-ranging Three-Day course takes place over three successive Mondays in February (2nd, 9th and 16th February 2026). It's accredited to Level 4 through our training Quality Licence from the national awarding body, Skills & Education Group.

Anticipatory Grief is grief that is experienced prior to the actual death or loss itself, and its experience starts, in most cases, with a loved one's terminal diagnosis. Though it has similarities with Post-Death Grief, there are a number of significant differences between the two - and these differences need to be fully understood IF our supportive work with those experiencing this type of grief is to be rich and valuable.

Moreover, we must remember that the Anticipatory Grief experience, unlike Post-Death Grief, belongs to two parties - those about to be bereaved, and the dying person himself or herself. This adds extra challenging dynamics to be taken into account.

This course is most relevant for those practitioners (counsellors, psychotherapists, coaches and guides) who specialise in grief counselling. They will find that bereaved clients will have lost a loved one in one of two ways - suddenly ......... or, after a terminal illness. If it is the latter, then clients may well want to talk about the challenges they faced during their loved one's illness, and their experience of Anticipatory Grief.

But, this course is also valuable for any nurse, carer, volunteer or practitioner who is working in or engaged with a form of palliative care support. The more we learn, the more we know. The more we know, the more we can empathise. The more we can empathise, the richer our presence with others!
