BURYING THE DEAD

More than a concert, ‘Burying the Dead’ will provide an exciting glimpse into life in Restoration London, through the deathbed testimony of Henry Purcell; written by scriptwriter Clare Norburn.

The piece will occupy the borders between a play and a concert as Purcell gives us his deathbed testimony. Purcell will conjure up the two singers and musicians of CERULEO to his bedside. Together they will take the audience on a journey back through Purcell’s memories of theatrical intrigues and into his internal dreamworld, as he confronts imagined key childhood memories of 1666.

CERULEO formed in 2014 at The Guildhall School of Music & Drama, and were delighted to be invited back as Artist Fellows for 2016-17. They have performed both at home and abroad, including concerts as part of the Brighton Early Music Festival, at St John's Smith Square and live on BBC Radio 3’s ‘In Tune’.

This production is being supported by Arts Council England and premiered on 3 May.
