Background Email info

Optimising cervical screening uptake is a priority for NHS Lanarkshire.

The age range and frequency of cervical screening has changed for routine screening and uptake is declining.

To address inequalities in uptake in women aged 25- 35 Scottish Government has awarded NHS Lanarkshire to enhance knowledge of health professionals and Community Midwives and Health Visiting Team staff can play a key role in supporting informed decision making.

The aims of the learning session include:

  • Raise awareness of the cervical screening programme & the risk and benefits of screening
  • Update staff on the recent age range & frequency changes
  • Increase confidence and knowledge to supporting informed decision making
  • Explore attitudes and barriers leading to low uptake of cervical screening in Scotland
  • Raise awareness of cervical cancer signs and symptoms and the symptomatic pathway
