Event description

Description

Children and Families Across Borders is pleased to announce the date of our 2017 annual International Child Protection seminar, chaired by Lady Black, of Derwent.

Our lecture will focus on the extent to which vulnerable ‘international’ children are having their care and protection needs met and their rights upheld. The route for achieving the best outcome for vulnerable children – including asylum-seeking children – is complex. Our speakers will explore common mistakes made by well-intentioned local authority social workers, the role and pitfalls of age assessments here and in other countries, understanding differing thresholds of child protection across the EU and the viability of national, regional or transnational case management systems.

Preliminary results will be shared from CFAB’s new research into best practice and challenges in inter-country children and families cases, focusing on cases where children at risk travel across international borders and where children in care are placed with family abroad.

Keynote speakers will include Ruth Griffiths, Child Protection Lawyer at Peterborough Council and Chris Spencer, Director of Children Services at Harrow Council. This lecture will also rely on challenges and solutions posed by attendees.
