CFI Academy presents Behind a Wall & Homegrown! 🎬 Film Premiere Screening – Celebrating the Next Generation of Filmmakers📍 Crawley College, Longley II Building📅 Wednesday 10th September 2025 | ⏰ 6pm - 7:30pm

Join us for an inspiring evening of cinema as we showcase two powerful short films created by young filmmakers through mentoring and creative development programmes. This premiere is a unique opportunity to see original stories on the big screen, meet the filmmakers, and celebrate the creativity of the next generation.

Film 1: Homegrown (CONTENT WARNING: Extremist, anti-immigrant and far right language that many will find offensive. Strong themes of radicalisation and racism. Contains further themes of Grief, Arson & Drinking alcohol.

Homegrown is the product of the Lighthouse Young Creatives (LYC) programme, an initiative run by Lighthouse, the Brighton-based arts charity dedicated to nurturing creativity in young people. Over the course of 25 weeks, participants aged 16–25 explored their ideas, developed their skills, and collaborated to write, direct, and produce this original short film. Throughout the programme, they were supported by a team of industry professionals, including filmmaker and mentor Callum Johnston, who guided them through the filmmaking process. After the screening, enjoy an exclusive Q&A with the filmmakers, plus hear from LYC Producer Sian Habell-Aili, who will share insights into the programme and the importance of projects like LYC in empowering the next generation of creatives.

Film 2: Behind a Wall (CONTENT WARNING: Scenes of emotional grief & loss)

Created by the talented young filmmakers of our CFI Academy National Saturday Club Film & Screen programme, Behind a Wall showcases the imagination and teamwork of 13–16 year-olds over a 25-week journey. This project was made possible through support from the BFI, the National Saturday Club, and Chichester College Group (CCG), who helped provide UniConnect funding to the programme. Mentored throughout by filmmaker Callum Johnston, the young participants worked together to bring their story to life. The screening will also feature a behind-the-scenes documentary, giving audiences a rare glimpse into the making of the project.

This special evening is more than a film screening—it’s a celebration of emerging talent, creativity, and community. Come along, support young voices in film, and be the first to experience these original productions on the big screen.Find out more about our work
