Chainsaw Maintenance and Crosscutting, Safe Felling of Trees
This course will cover
- HSE legislation and safety guidelines
- Overview of the chainsaw and maintenance equipment
- Maintaining the saw chain
- Maintaining the guide bar
- Power unit maintenance
- Starting the chainsaw and pre-cutting tests
- Cross-cutting timber and felled timber
- Felling
- Branch removal – snedding and de-limbing
- Take down hung-up trees using hand tools
- Clear site and chainsaw checks
- Clear site and chainsaw checks
Please note:
You will need good physical and manual dexterity to attend this course. Chainsaws and personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory for this training and must be supplied by the trainee. Hire of some items may be possible. Enquire for details.
There will be an extra day required for your assessment, the cost of LANTRA and NPTC registration is included in the fee for this course.
Equipment required:
You will need to supply your own PPE and equipment, please ensure that each item is in a good state of repair and meets current British Safety approved standards. PPE and equipment is required as follows:

Fuel for chainsaw
Chainsaw boots
Chainsaw protective trousers
Chainsaw gloves
British safety standard helmet with ear defenders and visor
Non snag upper body clothing
Tool kit for saw
A personal first aid kit
A whistle

Safe Felling of Small Trees
As for CS30 plus
Loggers tape
Pair of tongs
Small felling bar
Belt &holster (optional
Please also wear suitable warm clothing.
